(Peace be upon him)
In Egypt reigned an evil Pharaoh (Firaoon), who ordered to kill all the boys of Banu Israel. The Holy Quran indicates this cruel reality practiced by him.
[And recall, when We delivered you from the pharaoh’s people that afflicted you from the grievous torment, slaughtering your sons and keeping your daughters alive and in this work there was a great trial or great reward from your Lord.]
((Holy Quran, Chapter: 2, Verse: 49
At this dangerous time, Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) was born. Allah, The Almighty, sent a Messenger to his mother instructing her to put the baby Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) in a basket and let it swim up the river.
[And We inspired the mother of Musa, suckle him
when you may have fear for him, then cast him into the river and fear not, nor grieve. Undoubtedly, we shall return him to you and shall make him a messenger.]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 28, Verse:7
This basket was picked up by Pharaoh’s family. His wife was kind and advised her husband not to kill this child.
[Then the family of Pharaoh picked him up…… and the wife of Firaoon said, this child is a comfort to me and you, slay him not perhaps he may profit us or we may take him for a son, and they are unaware.]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 28, Verses: 8-9)
Pharaoh’s wife began to look for a foster mother to nurse the baby. Allah, The Almighty, has caused Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him)’s very own mother be chosen for it, as the other women of Egypt did not succeed in feeding him.
[And We had already ordained that he refused to suck at first, then she said, shall I point out to you such a household who may bring up this child of yours. And they are his well wishers. Thus We returned him to his mother that his mother might be comforted and not grieve and she might know that the promise of Allah is true, but most of the people do not know.]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 28, Verses: 12-13)
Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) grew up until manhood in the Pharaoh’s house. One day he came out to the city and saw two me fighting. One of them was a descendent of the pharaoh’s tribe and the other was from his tribe. Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) persuaded them to stop the fight. During this, he hit the man who was identified as a descendent from Firaoon’s tribe. This hit unfortunately killed him.
[And he entered the city, at a time when the people of the city were unaware in their noon’s nap and found there two men fighting, one was of Musa’s party and the other of his enemies. Then the one who was of his party sought his help against him who was of his enemies. Therefore Musa gave a blow to him and put an end to him. He said, this is the work of evil, undoubtedly, He is an enemy, a clear mis-leader.]
( Holy Quran, Chapter: 28, Verse:15)
Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) was informed that the pharaoh was planning to kill him for what he had done. So he (Peace be upon him) decided to leave Egypt to avoid any possible retaliation from the Pharaoh and headed off to Madyan.
[And a man came running from the far side of the city. He said, O Musa, undoubtedly the chiefs are counseling together to kill you, therefore get away, I am your well-wisher. Then he got out of the city fearing and waiting anxiously as to what happens next. He submitted, O my Lord, save me from the oppressors. And when he diverted his attention towards Madyan, he said, it is near that my Lord may tell me the straight path. ]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 28, Verses:20-22)
On his way to Madyan, he saw a well where some shepherds were watering their sheep. Two women were standing far away with their sheep and were not getting a chance to reach the well. Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) saw them and helped them get water.
[And when he arrived at the watering place in Madyan, there he saw a party of people were watering their animals, at the other side of them, he saw two women that were holding back their animals. Musa said, what is the matter with you? They said, we do not water until all the shepherds take away their animals after watering and our father is very old. So Musa watered the animals of both the women………]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 28, Verses: 23-24)
Both the women returned their house and told their father about how Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) had helped them. The old man sent one of his daughters to call upon him.
[Afterwards one of the two came to him walking bashfully and said, my father invites you that he may give you the wage for watering our animals……..]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 28, Verse:25
Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) came to an old man who was Prophet Shuaib (Peace be upon him). After some time, the old man was so impressed by him that he offered him one of his daughters to take as a wife under the condition that Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) served him for eight or ten years.
[He said, I intend to wed one of my daughters to you on the condition that you serve me for eight years, but if you complete full ten years, then it will be
from your side and I do not desire to put you in hardship. It is near if Allah wills, you would find me one of the righteous. ]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 28, Verse: 27
Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) fulfilled his term there and enjoyed a happy life with his family. Some time later when he was traveling with his family through some barren land, suddenly a fire appeared. He said to his family to stay there and went on by himself towards the fire.
[When Musa fulfilled his term and departed with his wife, he observed a fire from the side of the Tur (mountain). He said to his family, stay here, I have observed a fire from the side of Mount Tur, perhaps I may bring you some news from there or I may bring
to you any brand from the fire that you may warm
yourself.]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 28, Verse: 29
As he approached the fire, heard a voice:
[Then when he came to the fire, a call was made. O Musa! Verily I am your Lord, then take off your shoes, undoubtedly, you are in the sacred valley Tuwa. And I have chosen you, now listen carefully to what is revealed to you. ]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verses: 11-13
Then Allah, The Almighty, ordered him to go to Pharaoh of Egypt because he has forgotten the message of Allah, The Almighty, and rebelled again the righteous path.
[Go to pharaoh, he has rebelled.]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verse: 24)
Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) obeyed Him and asked Him to appoint a minister for him.
[He submitted, O my Lord open my breast for me. And make my task easy for me. And loosen the knot of my tongue that they may understand my speech. And make a minister for me from my family, my brother Haroon.]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verses: 25-30)
Allah, The Almighty, accepted his supplication.
[He Said , O Musa, you are granted your request.]
((Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verse: 36
Then Allah, The Almighty, ordered both of them to proceed towards Egypt and asked the Pharaoh to set the children of Prophet Yaqub (Pece be upon him) free.
[Go, both of you to Pharaoh, for he has indeed rebelled. Then speak to him mildly; may he be mindful or he may have some fear………….and say ,Surely we are Messenger sent by your Lord, so send forth the children of Israel with us, and do not torture them. No doubt, we have brought to you the sign from your Lard. And peace be upon those who follow the guidance.]
((Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verses: 43-47
Following the commandment of Allah, The Almighty, they went to Pharaoh and said:
[No doubt, we have been revealed that the torment is on him who belies and turns his face. ]
((Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verse: 48
Pharaoh asked:
[who is the Lord of you both.]
((Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verse: 49
Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) answered saying:
[Our Lord is He who gave its proper form to everything, then guided. ]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verse: 50
But he belied and refused to accept his message.
[Then when Musa brought to them our bright signs, they said, this is nothing but magic fabricated and we did not hear the like among our earlier fathers.]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 28, Verse: 36
So to prove that Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him)’s signs were nothing, they called together all the magicians of Egypt to show their performances before the Prophet (Peace be upon him).
[They said, O Musa! Either you cast or we cast first!]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verse: 65
Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) told them to cast first, and they turned their sticks and ropes to look like snakes.
[Musa said, may you cast, hence their ropes and staffs looked to him as through they were running by the strength of their magic.]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verse: 66
Now Allah, The Almighty, ordered Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) to cast down his stick. When he did that, his stick turned into a snake and swallowed all the snakes of the magicians.
[And cast down that is in your right hand, it will swallow their makings. That which they have made, is the trick of the magicians and the magician does not prosper anywhere he comes.]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verse: 69)
The magicians were impressed:
[Then all magicians were made to prostrate. They said, we believe in Him who is the Lord of Musa and Haroon.]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verse: 70
Pharaoh was surprised with this situation shouted at the magicians angrily.
[Pharaoh said, do you believe in Him before I allow you? Undoubtedly he is your leader who taught you magic. Then I swear necessarily I will cut off your hands and feet of alternate sides and will crucify you upon trunks of the palm-tree and certainly you will know, which of us is more severe and more casting in punishment.]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verse: 71
They replied to him firmly,
[They said, we shall never prefer you against this clear evidence that has come to us, by your creator, do whatever you have to do. You can only do it in the life of this world.]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verse: 72
Later Allah, The Almighty, ordered Prophet Musa
(Peace be upon him) to go with the children of Prophet Yaqoob (Peace be upon him) out of Egypt
[And we revealed to Musa to travel by night with My bondmen, undoubtedly, you are to be followed.]
((Holy Quran, Chapter: 26, Verse: 53
After they departed, pharaoh and his soldiers went after them to bring them back.
[So the people of Pharaoh followed them at sunrise.]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 26, Verse: 61
As Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) and his people reached the sea, they saw pharaoh’s soldiers approaching them.
[Then when the two groups saw each other, the people of Musa said, they have overtaken us! ]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 26, Verse: 62
Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) assured them of their safety. And Allah , The Almighty, ordered Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) to strike his stick on the sea for a path for the believers, so they could cross safely.
[Musa said, by no means undoubtedly my Lord is with me, He guided me just now. Then We revealed to Musa, strike the sea with your stick, hence the sea divided, and each separate part became like the huge, firm mass of a big mountain.]
Holy Quran, Chapter: 26, Verses:63-64))
So they walked through the sea as the water was parted and went safely to the other side. Unfortunately Pharaoh and his soldiers also followed them, but while they were on their way to cross the sea, the water came rushing down and drown all the non-believers.
[And We saved Musa and those who were with him
Then We drowned all the others.]
((Holy Quran, Chapter: 26, Verses:66-67
After they safely escaped the Pharaoh, they stayed in the desert for a long time eating divine food provided to them by Allah, The Almighty:
[O children of Israel! No doubt, We saved you from your enemy and We made a covenant with you on the right side of mount Tur and sent down on you Manna and Salwa (divine food).]
( Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verse:80)
When they needed water, Allah , The Almighty, ordered Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) to strike his stick on the rocks.
[And when Musa asked for water for his people, We said, Strike this rock with your stick. At once there gushed forth twelve springs from there. Each group knew its drinking place. Eat and drink of what Allah has provided and do not wander on the earth raising mischief.]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 2, Verse: 60)
One day Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) received Allah, The Almighty’s order to climb up mount Tur. Before he left, he appointed his brother Prophet Haroon (Peace be upon him) as his vicegerent.
……….[And Musa said to his brother, Haroon, be my vicegerent among my people and do right and do not
follow the way of mischief makers.]
( Holy Quran, Chapter: 7, Verse:142)
Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) climbed up to Mountain Toor and had a conversation with Allah, The Almighty. During this talk, he made an intention to take a look at Almighty Allah.
[And when Musa came to the place appointed by Me and his Lord spoke to him, he submitted, O my Lord! Show me Yoursef that I may look upon you.]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 7, Verse:143
Allah, The Almighty, told him that he did not have enough strength to be able to see Him.
[He Said , you shall never see me.]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 7, Verse:143
Then Allah, The Almighty, reiterated His blessings upon him, as he was sent as a Messenger to the people of Israel and gave him Tablets as a constitution to be followed by the people. These Tablets are known as Taurat, one of the divine books.
[Allah said, O Musa! I have blessed you from amongst the people with My messengership and an opportunity of conversation with Me. Take then what I have given you and be of the grateful. And we wrote for him on the Tablets of everything an admonition and details of everything. And said, O Musa! Take it with firmness and bid your people to follow the best of it. Soon I shall show you the abode of the disobedient.]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 7, Verse:144-145)
When Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) came
down from the mountain to his people, he saw the people worshipping a golden calf and his brother Prophet Haroon (Peace be upon him) about what was happening angrily.
[And when Musa returned to his people full of anger, grief, he said, badly you acted in my place after me? Did you hasten from the commands of your Lord? And he threw down the tablets and began to pull his brother towards him holding the hair of his head. He (Haroon) said, O son of my mother, the people deemed me weak and were about to kill me, so do not make the enemies laugh over me and place me not with the unjust people.]
((Holy Quran, Chapter: 7, Verse:150
Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) turned to his people and asked:
[Then Musa returned full of anger and sorrowful to his people, he said, O my people! Did your Lord not promise you? Did a long time pass on you or did you desire that the anger of your Lord should descend on you, so that you did against my promise. ]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verse: 86)
His people answered to him justifying their evil-doing hopelessly.
[They said, we did not break your promise by our own will but we were made to carry some load of these people’s ornaments, so we threw them then like wise did the samri cast. Then he brought out for them a calf, a lifeless body lowing, then they said, this is your God and the God of Musa, but Musa forgot.]
[Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verses: 87-88]
And now Prophet Musa (Peace be upon him) instructed them that their Lord is only Allah , The Almighty. No one else except Him is able to be worshipped.
[Your God is only Allah beside whom no one else is to be worshipped. His knowledge encompasses everything.]
[Holy Quran, Chapter: 20, Verse:98]
