And when Ibrahim was raising the foundations of this house and Ismail…]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 2, Verse:127

When they have finished with this work, they asked Allah, The Almighty, to send a Prophet towards this land from among themselves.
O our Lord, and send in them a messenger from among themselves, who may recite to them your signs and teach them your book and knowledge and purify them well. Surely, you are alone the predominant, the wise.]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 2, Verse:129)
Almost all Muslim scholars agree that this supplication was truly accepted by Almighty Allah and the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) was sent to this holy land.
O people! The messenger has come to you with truth from your Lord, then believe in him for your own benefit…….. ]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 4, Verse:170)
More clearly, the Holy Quran has stated about him,
[Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah…]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 48, Verse:29

Last Messenger:
Allah, The Almighty, has sent down about 124,000 or 224,000 (plus or minus some) Prophets in specific time periods and areas to guide people. Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) came as the last messenger of Allah. The Holy Quran alludes to this special status given to him.
[Muhammad is not the father of any of you, yes he is the messenger of Allah and the last one among all the Prophets and Allah knows all things.]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 33, Verse:40
Messenger for Everybody:
All the Prophets who came before him were sent for a specific region and group of people, but the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) was sent down for all people everywhere. His prophethood was not limited to any designated area or set of people. The Holy Quran says while address him:

[And we have sent you as a messenger to all mankind and Allah is a sufficient witness.]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 4, Verse:79)
[And O Beloved! We have not sent you but as a messenger for all of mankind……..]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 34, Verse:28)
On these grounds, the prophet himself said to his nation proclaiming:
[O Beloved, Say, O mankind I am a messenger to all of you …………]

( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 7, Verse:158

Announcement of Prophethood:
Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) used to pray in the cave of Hira in Mecca. One day when he was busy in his prayer, an angel appeared in the cave and asked him to read. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) replied, “I am not going to read.” Then the angel hugged him, pressing his chest and asked him to read again, but was given the same reply. The angel pressed him hard and left him asking to read with the name of Allah as mentioned in the Holy Quran.
[Recite with the name of your Lord who created. He made man from the clot of blood. Recite, for your Lord is the most generous. Who taught writing by the pen.]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 96, Verses:1- 4)
This time Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) repeated the same verse. This was the first revelation of the Holy Quran which enabled him to announce his prophethood and thus the Islamic movement began.

Islamic Movement:
On receiving the revelation, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) started passing this divine message to his close ones very secretly.
After a longtime, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) saw the angel Gabriel (Peace be upon him) again and as he drew close to him, the angel said:
O the mantled one, stand up, then warn. And magnify your Lord alone. ]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 74, Verses:1- 3)

Now he extended the invitation to the public at large, out in the open. Most of the people refused to listen to him and opposed him strongly. And new Muslims were being tortured, beaten and, persecuted by non-believers.
Isra and Meraj:
In the very critical period of the Islamic movement, Abu Talib, a supporter and uncle of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) passed away. A while after this devastating loss, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) also lost his most loving and caring wife, Hardhat Khadija (May Allah be pleased with her), who was always ready to comfort and support him as much as she could.
In the year following this sorrowful event, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) was invited by Allah, The Almighty, to see his manifesto and signs. Indicating towards this unusual and unique journey, the Holy Quran says:
Holy is He who carried His bondman in the night from the sacred Mosque to the Aqsa Mosque, which We showered blessings upon, in order to show him our signs, no doubt, He is Hearing and Seeing.]
((Holy Quran, Chapter: 17, Verse:1

This was the first phase of this holy scheduled journey, called “Isra”. In the next part, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) was honored to see Allah, The Almighty, and His signs, as he went through the skies and beyond outer space. This second part of this holy journey is called “Meraj”. The Holy Quran says:
[And he was on the highest horizon. Then that splendid sight drew nearer, then he came close well. So there was a distance of two bow-lengths between the splendid sight and the beloved( Prophet ) but rather less than that.]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 53, Verses: 7- 9)
Migration to Medina:
As the persecution of the Quraish grew in intensity, the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) was directed by Allah, The Almighty, to migrate to Medina. The Holy Quran indicates to some aspects of this
journey.
[Allah helped him when infidels got them out, second of the two, when both were in the cave, said to his companion, do not worry, no doubt Allah is with us, then Allah sent down his satisfaction on him and helped him with armies which you did not see, and put down the words of infidels. It is the word of Allah alone which is supreme, and Allah is Dominant, Wise.]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter:9, Verse: 40
Battles:
The Prophet (Peace be upon him) migrated to Medina and settled there. The situation in Medina was totally different than of Mecca. Muslims could freely call the people to the noble Islamic message and practice it without any restriction. As a result, Islam became the fastest growing religion and the number of Muslims began to increase rapidly.
A strong setting for Islam and Muslims did not let the Meccan’s sit quietly. They started plotting to harm the Muslim community and divert their attention from the Islamic movement. This was the time when Allah, The Almighty, gave the Muslims permission to use their power and strength in order to save their religion, property and their lives.

Battle of Badr:
The Non Muslims in Mecca had highly prepared themselves and marched to Medina to attack and
eradicate the Islamic movement. The Holy Quran mentions this incident:
[No doubt, there has been for you a sign in two groups that encountered among themselves. One group was fighting in the way of Allah and the other disbelievers that saw with their eyes twice of them (the size of the Muslim army)……. ]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 3, Verse:13)
Although the number of Muslims was much less than that of the non-Muslims, Allah, The Almighty, helped them and led them to meet a clear victory over the non-Muslims.
[And verily, Allah did help you at Badr, when you were resource less. So fear Allah; thus perhaps you show your gratitude.]
( (Holy Quran, Chapter: 3, Verse:123

Battle of Ohad:
Meccans could not forget the shameful defeat in the battle of Badr and began to reunite their strengths for revenge against the Muslims.
As the Prophet(Peace be upon him) received news that an army of a good number of enemies was marching towards Medina, he called forth the Muslims and consulted them on this prevailing situation. Later on, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) with an army of seven hundred proceeded towards Mount Ohad. The Holy Quran says:
And remember, O beloved! When you came out
from your house in the morning assigning to the Muslims their positions for battle. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.]
((Holy Quran, Chapter: 3, Verse:121

In this battle, both sides faced each other fiercely but soon the Muslims got the upper hand and forced the Meccans to go back. But in the meantime, an unwilling mistake made by some Muslim warriors, led the Muslim army to suffer a heavy loss of lives.
At the end, the Meccans had to return to Mecca leaving the Muslims and their belongings.

Battle of Ahzab:
In order to bring peace and tranquility to Medina, the Prophet(Peace be upon him) signed on a peace treaty with neighboring Jewish tribes. Unfortunately the Jews of Banu Nudhair violated the treaty’s conditions and plotted to kill the Prophet(Peace be upon him). Therefore, actions had to be taken against them and expelled them away from Medina.
After leaving Medina, Banu Nudhair moved to Khaibar and began to get in contact with enemies of Islam in Mecca and surrounding areas, in order to unite everyone for a combat invasion on Medina. But Allah, The Almighty, informed his Prophet (Peace be upon him) about their planning. The Prophet (Peace be upon him) consulted with his companions to find out a proper way to deal with this situation and decided to dig a wide trench outside of Medina that could possibly be used to
keep them out of Medina. Along with the Prophet (Peace be upon him), his companions worked very hard and finally they finished their project before the arrival of their enemies.
An allied force of enemies came close to Medina and saw this unique war technique. They made several attempts to cross the trench but were unsuccessful. One day Allah, The Almighty’s help came as a strong wind, thunder, and heavy rainstorm that made the enemies flee back as He says:
[O believers! Remember Allah’s favor upon you, when some hosts came against you, then we sent on them strong wind and an army, which you did not see. And Allah sees your doings.]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 33, Verse: 9)

Conquest of Mecca:
Earlier Muslims in Mecca were forced to leave their city. So they migrated to Medina peacefully and settled there. In Media they got a chance to practice their religion freely.
In the sixth year of Hijrah, the Prophet(Peace be upon him) with his companions intended to perform Umrah and marched towards Mecca. They went with no plans of attacking the Meccans but things changed after they were inhumanly forced to stay away from the Kaaba. After a long dialog between both parties, they signed an agreement. According to the treaty, Muslims were to go back to Medina without performing Umrah.
The Prophet (Peace be upon him) gave them his word that would be accepted by his companions, and they all came back to Medina.
History witnessed that Meccans were the first to break this treaty. Allah, The Almighty, then ordered His Prophet ( Peace be upon him) to disregard that and proceed to Mecca.
Meccans who had given a series of hardships to the Muslims were scared and locked themselves in their homes. But the Prophet (Peace be upon him) declared a general amnesty for the entire community of Mecca. He also went into the Kaaba and purified it of all the idols that were inside. The Holy Quran has said, indicating to this memorable event:
[When the help of Allah and victory come. And you see people interring the religion of Allah in crowds. Then praising Allah, glorify Him and beg His forgiveness. Undoubtedly, He is most Relenting.]
Holy Quran, Chapter: 110, Verses:1-3))
Farewell Hajj:
In the tenth year of Hijrah, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) intended to perform Hajj. As this news spread among Muslims, a group of about 120,000 Muslims also decided to have the opportunity to go with their leader.
At Arafat during Hajj, the Prophet (Peace be upon him) got the last revelation of the Quran.
….. This day I have completed your religion for you and completed My favor upon you and have chosen Islam as the religion for you…..]
(Holy Quran, Chapter: 5, Verse:3)
